The final week of March offers a perfect blend of late-winter activities and the first whispers of spring across the Gallatin Valley. Bridger Bowl has shutdown (boo!), but Big Sky remains open and Showdown is offering $35 lift tickets for season pass holders at Bridger. Community events begin to shift toward outdoor gatherings and seasonal celebrations that make this area such a special place to call home.

Ski Conditions

Bridger Bowl: Closed

Big Sky Resort maintains a 69" base depth with 40 lifts open as of March 17, with temperatures of 37°F at Mountain Village and a daytime high of 49°F degrees. Current snowpack levels sit at 48.0" with up to 3" of more snowfall forecasted over the next 5 days.

Big Sky

The Big Sky Winter Shootout on March 26, 2026, serves as an annual local film festival at The Waypoint celebrating Big Sky's mountain culture, with weekly live music Thursday-Sunday at various Mountain Village locations throughout March. This event perfectly captures the creative spirit of the mountain community.

March continues to be prime skiing season in Big Sky. March offers some of the best skiing of the entire season with deeper snowpack, varied conditions from powder to corn snow, and longer days creating an ideal environment for exploring Big Sky's legendary terrain.

For dining and entertainment, the village offers numerous options for après-ski activities, with Scissorbills Saloon being a popular spot for drinks and live music. The resort's mountain village maintains its vibrant atmosphere with restaurants, shops, and accommodation options for visitors.

Belgrade

Belgrade maintains a quieter pace this week, with regular community activities centered around the Belgrade Community Library and city meetings. The library offers video games and snacks for grades 6-12 with Nintendo Switch gaming available - no sign-up necessary.

For those seeking outdoor activities, Belgrade provides easy access to the Gallatin River for early season fishing conditions and nearby trail systems. The community's central location makes it an ideal base for exploring both Bozeman attractions and outdoor recreation throughout the valley.

Local dining establishments like Bridger Pub & Grill offer gathering spots for residents, while the area's agricultural heritage provides numerous scenic drives through farmland as winter transitions to spring.

Three Forks

Three Forks embraces its quieter character during this transitional week, though the community prepares for busier seasons ahead. The Three Forks Rodeo is always held the third weekend of July annually, on both Friday and Saturday nights starting at 7PM with slack on Friday morning at 8AM, giving residents something to anticipate.

The historic town offers excellent access to outdoor recreation, with the Madison Buffalo Jump State Park providing educational opportunities about Native American history and excellent hiking. Lewis and Clark State Park about a 20 minute drive from Three Forks offers additional outdoor recreation opportunities.

The convergence of three rivers makes Three Forks an exceptional location for fishing enthusiasts, with the Jefferson, Madison, and Gallatin rivers providing diverse angling opportunities as winter conditions begin to ease. The town's railroad heritage and historic downtown district offer peaceful walks and local history exploration.

This final week of March perfectly encapsulates what makes the Gallatin Valley special - world-class skiing, thriving arts communities, outdoor recreation opportunities, and tight-knit neighborhoods where everyone feels at home. Whether you're catching live music downtown, hitting the slopes for spring skiing, or simply enjoying the lengthening days with family, this region continues to offer the kind of lifestyle that draws people from around the world.
