What's Happening This Week in the Gallatin Valley: April 1 – April 12, 2026

Spring is settling into the Gallatin Valley this week, bringing with it the perfect balance of late-season snow adventures and the promise of warmer days ahead. April offers countless ways to get inspired, entertained, and connected, with everything from chamber music concerts to art exhibitions opening their doors.

Bozeman

This week kicks off with a wonderful cultural offering for music lovers. Montana Chamber Music presents a free Noon Notes concert featuring Kamerata, Bozeman and Gallatin High School Chamber Ensembles on Monday, April 6, from 12-1 p.m. at the Community Room at 626 E. Main St. It's a lovely midday break and a chance to hear some of our talented local student musicians alongside professionals.

Love comedy and improv? Notorious BOZ w/ Christina Hill
True Stories + Improv Comedy

Notorious BOZ is a long-form improv show that celebrates the city of Bozeman, its history and its incredible citizens. Every show will feature a guest "Armando" or monologist who will share stories from their life. The cast will then use those stories as inspiration to create characters and scenes and bring it all together in a completely hilarious and improvised show. Tickets at Last Best Comedy

Art enthusiasts should mark their calendars for Friday, April 10, when the "Catch & Release: From Headwaters to Confluence" art exhibition opens with a reception from 5-7 p.m. This exhibition features rivers, fish, flies, and the art of fly fishing, perfectly capturing the spirit of our Montana waters as they begin to warm up for the season.

Music continues throughout the week with regular programming at local venues. Caroline Shaw + Attacca Quartet will be performing Thursday, April 9, at 6:30 p.m. at Willow Spring Ranch, and Friday, April 10, at 7:30 p.m. in the Reynolds Recital Hall at MSU. There's also a free Romantic Favorites concert featuring a Bozeman Symphony violinist performing Beethoven's Romance in F Major, alongside César Francks famous Symphony in D minor, on Saturday, April 11, at 7 p.m. at Hope Lutheran Church, 2152 W. Graf St.

For those who enjoy regular live music venues, you'll find weekly programming at various spots: Mondays feature Singer/Songwriter Night from 6:30–8:30 p.m., Thursdays bring Bluegrass from 7–9 p.m., Fridays offer Jazz with Alex Robilotta from 7–9 p.m., and Saturdays showcase Rock/Funk from 7–9 p.m. The Tune Up Bar and Lounge offers live music Wednesday–Saturday nights at 24 W. Mendenhall St. with no cover charge.

Big Sky

Big Sky continues to deliver excellent spring skiing conditions this week. A free outdoor music and après program is held each Saturday in April at The Bowl, making this the perfect time to combine great skiing with live entertainment. The highly anticipated Big Sky Pond Skim happens on April 11, with Spring Series concerts every Saturday in April. The Big Sky Pond Skim returns to The Bowl and remains one of the most photographed spring events at the resort, where costumed skiers and riders launch off a jump and attempt to skim across a pond.

Current snowpack levels are sitting at 39.0" with no new snow to report, though Big Sky averages 400" of snow per year and receives fairly consistent snow throughout the season even into April, continuing to offer really good skiing at discounted prices. The resort operates daily through April 12, 2026, with Friday-Sunday access April 17-26, conditions permitting.

Belgrade

While specific events for Belgrade this particular week are limited, the town offers several reliable spots for community connection. The Bozeman Farmers Market will return to Lindley Park on Tuesdays from June 16 – September 8, 2026, from 5-8pm, but until then, residents can look forward to the regular winter farmers market programming and local restaurant offerings.

Belgrade serves as a great base for exploring the broader Gallatin Valley, with easy access to both Bozeman's cultural offerings and Three Forks' outdoor recreation opportunities. The town's family-friendly atmosphere and growing dining scene make it an excellent place to call home year-round.

Three Forks

Three Forks maintains its quiet charm this week, though the community is already preparing for their annual Three Forks Rodeo, which is always held the third weekend of July annually on both Friday and Saturday nights starting at 7PM, with slack on Friday morning at 8AM.

For those seeking outdoor activities, Three Forks offers excellent access to the Madison Buffalo Jump State Park, prime fishing along the Madison, Jefferson, and Missouri rivers, and hiking opportunities in the nearby Tobacco Root Mountains. The town's location at the confluence of three major rivers makes it a paradise for anglers and outdoor enthusiasts. Local dining options like the Headwaters Inn provide hearty meals after a day exploring Montana's great outdoors.

Ski Conditions Update

With April skiing still very much in play, here's what you need to know about mountain conditions:

Bridger Bowl: No new snow to report with snowpack levels sitting at 3.0", though the 2025/2026 season ran from November 1, 2025 through March 22, 2026, with 138" of total snowfall. The season has officially ended, but backcountry enthusiasts should note that backcountry conditions exist inside and out of Bridger Bowl's ski area boundaries with no avalanche hazard reduction work and no ski patrol available for rescues.

Big Sky Resort: Still operating with spring skiing conditions. Snowpack levels are at 39.0", below the average of 55 inches for this time of year but still providing good skiing conditions. Spring at Big Sky offers lighter, longer days with corn snow in The Bowl - this is Big Sky's secret season.

This week offers a perfect blend of cultural enrichment, spring skiing, and the slower pace that makes the Gallatin Valley such a wonderful place to live. Whether you're catching a concert, planning weekend ski adventures, or simply enjoying the longer daylight hours, there's something here for everyone to appreciate about life in southwest Montana.
